The labor of Connections UnitingCare as we see it today is the contemporary expression of the initiative of many courageous people who played a pivotal role in addressing injustice in Melbourne beginning in the 1920s. The plans these people devised paved the way for the establishment of the Presbyterian and Methodist Babies’ Homes. In the 1970s, in the newer areas of population growth in the southeastern suburbs, people of faith responded again to the needs of families with young children and teenagers by establishing apropos programs through Grass mere Youth Services and the Wheeler Hill Family center. Over the ensuing years, these programs expanded rapidly as more needs and ways of addressing these were identified. Connections has carried on the work and legacy of our founding organizations by responding to community need and providing innovative, engaging services to marginalized children, families and young people.
